An Alaskan fable of great proportions, Atlin Blue and Miss Scarlet, tells a story of the magic that can happen when you plant a seed. Little Atlin Blue and his mom tend the Community Garden in their little Alaska town. In this children’s story for ages 3 – 10, the little boy’s love is returned by a carrot named Miss Scarlet who grows taller and taller and becomes a huge celebrity. Written By Skagway gardener Emily Grace Willis and beautifully illustrated by Alaska Artist Courtenay Birdsall Clifford.
Illustrator Courtenay Birdsall Clifford was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. With two artists for parents, she got an early start in the arts. Now working primarily in a blend of watercolor and acrylic, she finds unending inspiration in the Alaska landscape (be it vast mountain ranges or wee garden beds) and seeks to capture the lush textures and vivid colors of nature. She and her husband now happily live, work and play in Skagway.
