In 1997, he won the Milton Acorn People's Poetry Award for his collection Tearing Into A Summer Day. Gervais has worked for a number of newspapers. For 17 years, he was The Windsor Star's book editor. Currently he writes the thrice-weekly "My Town" column. He is also the University of Windsor's "resident writing porfessional," where he offers creative writing workshops to the public. In addition to his own writing, Marty Gervais is the publisher of Black Moss Press, one of Canada's oldest independent publishing houses.
