The Carousel Keepers is a book for all who enjoyed the experiences of watching, hearing, and riding the wooden carousel during the golden age of American amusement history — and for those who continue to appreciate the carousel, or merry-go-round, as a very special element of the American cultural landscape.
Although she has always had an eye for history--she earned a BA in History from Rutgers University--Ms. Papa's keen interest in people and their history was honed during thirty years of living abroad. Upon her return to the states, she served as the founding director of the Old Monroe School Museum in New Jersey, and her work there involved the design, research and implementation of several oral history projects including Stones & Stories: An Oral History of the Old Monroe School, which later was published as a book. Ms. Papa is currently at work on a new book on carousels, Diamonds on the Midway: A Guide to America's Classic Carousels, a McDonald and Woodward Guide to the American Landscape.
